European Hockey Academy getting ready in Mogo Arena

Riga Cup 2018 – Preparation in Riga

In only couple of days begins the first EHA event in Latvia ever. And even one could say: “OK, it’s like to ride the bicycle – one country like another…”, it’s not like that in real world and each country’s got it’s own specialities, when it comes to youth ice hockey. However, tournament organizers as well as all our Latvian members helped us out and now we can say, that we are ready to go… 🙂

Preparation camp hosted by Mogo Ice Hall

Latvians play ice hockey – kids, adults – simply everyone. That is a conclusion you have to reach while you’d try to book the ice in this Baltic country, as it seems nearly impossible – not to mention, that it is quite expensive compared to many other European “ice hockey” countries.

However, with great deal of help from organizers of Riga Cup 2018, we managed to book the ice for our preparation Camp within this event. On-ice practices of the preparation will be hosted by ‘Mogo Ice Hall’ in Riga (*with over 700.000 residents the biggest city within Baltic states), which is hosting some of the tournament’s games as well. Here is the contact information:

Hotel at the same side of Daugava river

As usual, by this event we also try to offer accommodation for its attendees as well as for their accompaniment. The hotel was selected out of available hotels with regards to location and logistics, standard and, of course, price level.

TOMO Hotel, Riga
TOMO Hotel, Riga, Latvia

The hotel we chosen is:
***Apart Hotel Tomo
Raunas iela 44
Vidzemes priekšpilsēta
LV-1039 Rīga

When we look at the location and logistics, the positive by this hotel is, that it is quite close to, and at the same side of the Daugava river as ‘Mogo Ice Hall’. It means, that during the preparation camp it won’t be necessary for us to cross the river, which is more less “cutting” the city in the middle and means a real challenge in terms of traffic.

However, we will have a chance to try this challenge during the tournament, as we are going to play the games in our tournament group in two arenas: ‘OZO Arena’, which is located in town Ozolnieki, app. 50 km from the hotel in south-west direction (and we need to cross the river to get there… ) and ‘Volvo Arena’, which is actually in Riga, but still on the other side of the river.

More information regarding the accommodation and catering during this event is available on event’s page. This event is a part of the ‘Canadian line’ of EHA’s development program.

What is the “Canadian” line?

Teams for events within “Canadian” line are built with regards to preparation and selection of present EHA players as well as to opening of possibilities for new players, who are interested to join EHA’s development program and one of the teams attending the Trip to Canada. Approximately 11 of 15 attendees for each of events is chosen among present EHA players and remaining 4 spots are reserved for possible new aspirants. Are you one of the players, who are not a member of EHA yet, then now is a right time to come along.

YES, I WANT TO JOIN EHA

Players have a possibility to prove their skills during preparation camps and games played on related tournaments within each event in “Canadian” line: (see the events scheduled as of March 2018)
